Xmas is too commercial. 99% of the excitement comes from the anticipation of gifts. And, if ya aint religious, then what is there? Oh God. That Xmas music you hear on the radio and in the stores is headache-horrible. Tonight I was in Staples and heard sing that murderously hideous she does. Ghaaack! I couldn't get outa there quick enough. New Year's is essentially meaningless, other than an excuse to party. New Year's "resolutions" are also meaningless, even to those who like that kind of crap. Airline and other travel prices go through the roof. Prices at all vacation destinations, hotels, and my favorite ski resorts increase, as do the gas prices. The damn gyms and tennis clubs are closed on Xmas day, which they shouldn't be. I DO like the time off, however. And the after-Xmas sales. So I usually watch videos during the holidays, cook great food, avoid the damn stores and crowds and vacation tourist spots. I also buy a few turkeys, roasts and hams, as well as a few bags full of veggies and the like, and take them to one of the missions, shelters, or churches that are either serving these things or giving food to the actually deserving families who cannot afford. I've also volunteered to cook and serve at the soup kitchens. But, I'm just like the rest of the give-a-shit US population, in that I don't do this kind of consistently, year-round. Too bad we don't. Yes, I said "we."
